Identifying symptoms is the first step toward eliminating them. Patients with overly large and/or sagging breasts may experience any of the symptoms discussed in this post. Patients who would like symptom relief are encouraged to make an appointment with Dr. Correa to see if a breast reduction is an appropriate treatment option.
Symptoms #1 and #2: Upper Back and/or Neck Pain
The large muscles of the back, shoulders, and chest support the upper body. In order to support added weight from overly large breasts, the shoulder and back muscles work twice as hard as normal. This often results in muscle pain and cramps in the upper back and/or neck. Stiffness may also present.
Symptom #3: Poor Posture
Patients often do not have back and shoulder muscles that are strong enough to support overly large breasts. Patients may develop a hunch back and rounded shoulders if their breast size is not reduced.
Symptom #4: Rashes Under the Breasts
Overly large breasts often sag and rub against the bottom of the chest and upper stomach. Excess rubbing causes rashes that can be aggravating and painful.
Symptom #5: Shoulder Grooves from Straps
Normal bras may not offer enough support for overly large breasts. When extra tension is placed on bra straps, they dig into the shoulders and cause painful grooves to develop.
Symptom #6: Self Consciousness
Breasts are a very personal physical feature. Women who are not happy with the appearance of their breasts may become self-conscious. They may also get frustrated when the size and shape of their breasts do not match the rest of their body.
Symptom #7: Inability to Participate in Sports or Physical Activities
Breasts that can not be supported by a bra may bounce too much and get in the way when playing sports, exercising, or performing physical activities. This can be aggravating and frustrating. Especially when lifestyle changes need to be made to accommodate for symptoms.
A breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts and repositions them. Patients who undergo a breast reduction procedure typically see symptom relief in a very short period of time. Because every patient’s condition and accompanying symptoms are different, Dr. Correa customizes all of his breast reduction procedures. Patients who would like more information or would like to schedule an initial breast reduction consultation may call (281) 419-9119 or visit our contact page.
