Are you interested in undergoing a tummy tuck procedure?
Maybe you’re having trouble losing stubborn weight from your midsection. Perhaps a few pregnancies have made it difficult for you to achieve a more streamlined stomach. Whatever the case may be, you probably have one question on your mind…
“Am I a good tummy tuck candidate?”
Potential patients should always work with a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine if they’re a good tummy tuck candidate. During the consultation process, your plastic surgeon will examine your midsection, review your medical history, and ask you additional questions to determine if a tummy tuck is appropriate for your needs.
In general, you’re a good tummy tuck candidate if you meet the following criteria:
- You have excess skin and fat located in the lower part of the abdomen area. This excess skin and fat could be the result of significant weight loss or pregnancy. In general, you should demonstrate that a healthy diet and exercise regimen has not resulted in stomach fat loss.
- You should tolerate anesthesia and not have a problem with healing your surgical scars (in other words, you shouldn’t have blood disorders or any health condition that prevents normal wound healing).
- You’re in good shape. The best candidates are those that are trim elsewhere along the body but just can’t lose the stomach weight or excess skin. Patients should have a BMI below 30 before considering a tummy tuck.
- You’re in good health and don’t smoke. If you are interested in a tummy tuck procedure, it’s recommended that you quit smoking before undergoing any surgical treatment.
