Losing a significant amount of weight is a big accomplishment and one that you should be able to enjoy. However, massive weight loss often leaves an excessive amount of loose skin that ruins the sleek silhouette you have worked so hard to attain. Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of this excess skin is through surgery. A partial or full body lift from Dr. Correa can help with this.
Multiple procedures in one
A body lift involves performing several distinct procedures during the same surgery. Dr. Bryan Correa sees patients from Houston and the surrounding areas that are considering this surgery and want a surgeon who uses the latest techniques and technology. He delivers state-of-the-art upper and lower body lifts.
What is a body lift?
A body lift removes excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat from the entire midsection of the body. This procedure, also known as a 360 Body Lift, tightens the underlying muscle structure and can eliminate bumps and dimples during the procedure.
- Areas that are addressed in a body lift typically include:
- Abdominal area
- Lower Back
- Outer thighs
- Pubic area
Every candidate for a body lift presents a different set of challenges. Based on your goals and Dr. Correa’s professional evaluation, a surgical plan will be recommended that will help you attain your goals in a safe way. In many cases only one procedure is necessary. In others, it may require a staged approach with more than one surgery to accomplish your goals. Either way, Dr. Correa will take the time to understand the exact end result you are going for, and lay out a sensible plan to achieve this, whether it involves one procedure or multiple procedures to get you a completely satisfactory body lift.
Who is a candidate for body lift surgery?
- This is an extensive surgical process and requires that candidates are:
- In good health with no medical conditions that impair healing
- Have a positive attitude
- Have realistic expectations of the final outcome
- Do not smoke, or are willing to abstain before and after surgery
- Have a stable weight with little fluctuation
- Are committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle
Body lift procedure
A body lift is done under general anesthesia. The surgery takes approximately 6-8 hours. Usually an overnight stay is necessary, and then patients can complete their recovery in the comfort of their own home.
Prior to your surgery, Dr. Correa will review the exact procedure he will use in your surgery and answer any questions you may have. He encourages his patients to get all of their concerns addressed, no matter how small. He wants his patients to be reassured that they have made the right decision, and wants them to feel they received the best results possible from their body lift.
Generally, the procedure involves using incisions in a bikini pattern to tighten the abdomen, waist, buttocks and groin. If there is a curtain of excess skin and fat around the entire body, then the incision is made around the circumference, removing the excess and tightening the underlying tissues. Every attempt is made to ensure the scars will remain hidden beneath clothing. Liposuction may be needed in conjunction with the surgery to achieve the best possible results.
Body lift recovery
Dressings will be applied to the incisions and there will be small drainage tubes placed under the skin to aid with healing. Initial recovery time will be 2 to 3 weeks. The drains should be able to be removed in 2 to 4 weeks. If you have a desk job, you can probably return to work after 4 weeks.
The majority of your recovery will be complete in about 4 weeks, but your new body continues to change and ‘settle in’ for several months as you heal. You will be slowly introduced to more activity as your healing process progresses. Your progress will be closely monitored so that the recovery is as smooth as possible with no complications.
Some visible scars are inevitable but the results will be very long-lasting as long as your weight remains stable.
