If diet and exercise has not given you the sleek and toned thighs you envision, you should consider having a thigh lift. A thigh lift is a solution for people who have accumulations of fat in the inner and outer thighs and have lost skin elasticity due to aging or significant weight loss. To determine how you can best meet your image goals, you are invited to contact Dr. Bryan Correa, a licensed plastic surgeon based in The Woodlands and Houston with the many years of training experience necessary to care for all aspects of cosmetic and functional surgery. If you’re looking for thigh lift surgery, give him a call to find out more about how this procedure can help you achieve your image goals.
What is a thigh lift?
A thigh lift removes excess skin and fat accumulations from the inner thigh and tightens the underlying tissue. This reshapes the thighs and smoothes the skin reducing the appearance of bumps and dimples.
A thigh lift isn’t necessary if a patient has good skin elasticity and the only goal is the removal of fat from the thighs. The best option in this case is simply liposuction. With good skin elasticity the thigh can conform to its new and reduced size after the fat has been removed.
Thigh lift procedure
As in all procedures involving removal of excess skin, the incision location and length is determined by the amount of loose skin and fat that will be removed. Some patients can expect a great result using a minimal incision that is placed only in the groin area, while others will require an extension down the inside of the leg which varies with the degree of tightening needed.
Liposuction is commonly performed at the start of surgery, and then the excess skin is removed. The underlying tissue will be sutured to form the contours best suited to the anatomy of the patient and then the incision will be closed.
Surgical dressings will be placed and small drainage tubes will be inserted to reduce fluid collection and aid the healing process.
Who is a candidate for a thigh lift?
If you think you might have more children, or if you are planning to lose more weight, you should postpone this surgery until those events are done. Otherwise, if you are in good health, have a realistic concept of what to expect and can maintain a healthy lifestyle, you will be a good candidate for a thigh lift at Dr. Correa’s office.

If you have had liposuction performed you may notice some fluid draining from the incisions; much of that fluid is a diluted anesthetic solution used in the liposuction phase of the surgery. You should walk as much as you can during the first 48 hours, avoiding anything that puts pressure on the incision such as squatting or using stairs. You can shower after the first 48 hours using a mild soap.
If you have a very sedentary job, you should be able to return to work after the first week, once you have had your follow-up with Dr. Correa. Swelling will decrease gradually over a 6 week period. The incisions and internal tightening sutures need time to fully heal before putting any unnecessary pressure on the area. Strenuous exercise should be avoided until you get the okay from Dr. Correa.
The incisions will usually look their best in the first few weeks after surgery and then will go through a temporary phase for several months where they will be more pink or red and then gradually return to a softer, flatter, more pale appearance usually over the last 6-12 months after surgery. It is important to shield the scars from the sun, either by avoiding it altogether or using a sun block.
