A breast augmentation is a great way to enhance the size or shape of the breasts. People often wonder if increasing the size of the breast will affect the size of the nipple or areola.
In most cases, a breast augmentation will not affect nipple size. The areola (the darker pigment around the nipple) will either be unchanged or may look slightly fuller. Aside from a more prominent look, the nipple will not get larger from a breast augmentation alone. Implants can cause your nipples to appear somewhat higher up on your chest immediately after your surgery. Once the swelling subsides, they should return to ‘normal.’ In most breast augmentations, the nipple is boosted naturally by the implant and they look perkier.
A breast lift, on the other hand, can change the size or shape of the areola or nipple if a patient prefers as the incision is usually done around the areola. Your areolae and nipples can be reduced in size and/or modified to improve their shape so they appear more balanced.
Some patients find that aging and pregnancy changes their nipples – making them larger, droopier, or changing their color. During a breast lift, Dr. Correa can raise the nipple and areola into a more forward position, to create a more youthful breast contour.
