Stress isn’t the only culprit in aging…

While stress is a one of the largest contributors to aging, it is not the only factor.

  • Other things that cause aging include:
  • Smoking
  • Sun damage
  • Illness
  • Work pressure
  • Money problems
  • Family responsibilities
  • Lack of sleep
  • Environmental toxins
  • Heredity

The options available to remove some of those years from your appearance range from simple Botox injections and filler procedures up to a complete facelift. In most patients that need a facelift, combining it with a well thought out skin care regimen will improve results in the short and long-term. Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Correa wants you to receive the best results possible from your facelift, and he wants your long-term results to be excellent too.

Surgical facelift

Facelift represents one of the most complex facial cosmetic surgeries there is. With the possible exception of rhinoplasty, no other operation has a greater number of variables and individual differences between patients than facelift. Because of this, it is essential to choose a surgeon who has a great understanding of the delicacies and intricacies inherent in facelift surgery.

A ‘traditional’ facelift, if there is such a thing, utilizes a well-camouflaged incision to allow for tightening and redraping of the skin and underlying muscle and fascia. The tissue is tightened until the sagging is gone and any loose skin is removed. Sutures are then put in place at the incision site. There are other complementary procedures which are sometimes recommended with a facelift from Dr. Correa, such as fat transfer and neck lift. As a dedicated facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Correa works extensively on the face, and is well-versed in both rhinoplasty and facelift procedures.

What you can expect in your initial consultation:

It is very important to Dr. Correa that his patients understand all aspects of facelift before making the decision to move forward with surgery. It is his philosophy that his success as a plastic surgeon is dependant not only on his surgical skills, but also his ability to fully understand the needs and goals of his patients. By taking the time to understand each patient’s desires, he can ensure they get the treatment or procedure that is truly right for them.

Your initial consultation with Dr. Correa will last about an hour. During this time Dr. Correa will:
  • Perform a comprehensive examination of the issues you are seeking to remedy
  • Ensure he completely understands your goals for the procedure
  • Recommend a treatment plan that encompasses your goals
  • Explain the basis for his recommendations
  • Answer any questions you have about the procedure as well as insurance coverage or financing

You will have the opportunity to examine photographs of his other patients who have undergone facelift so you can see his work and know what to expect if you decide to proceed. Dr. Correa will discuss the changes that you can expect to achieve and make recommendations regarding the best surgical methods to use to achieve your goals. You are encouraged to ask many questions and also to share any anxiety you may be having. Attaining your goal is a team effort. You and Dr. Correa must agree on the aesthetics and methods of your surgery so that you can obtain a result that meets or even exceeds your expectations.

Neck lift

A neck lift is typically included in a full facelift. Some people desire a neck lift in isolation. The neck is an area that shows aging by an accumulation of fatty tissue which removes definition from the chin and can give the impression that you are overweight. An incision is made behind the ear allowing the surgeon to remove any excess fat by using liposuction, or a similar method. If needed, a platysmaplasty is done using a small incision under the chin, which is a procedure which separates the skin from the muscles that run vertically down the neck. This removes the ‘neck cord’ look which develops over time. Finally the excess skin is removed and sutures are put in place. In some people a neck lift can be performed alone, but most commonly a face lift and a neck lift will be needed to fully reduce the signs of aging.

Fat transfer

Fat transfer is a technique that is used to restore lost fullness in the face and hands. Fat is removed from another part of the patient’s body and purified and transferred to where needed. Since the fat comes from the patient’s body, it is well tolerated. Many dermal fillers can produce a similar effect. I often recommend trying a filler first, which is temporary, to see if it accomplishes the desired look. If successful, it is then recommended that you do a fat transfer, which leads to more *long-lasting results. Fat transfer can be done by itself in mild cases of facial aging, but it can also be combined with a facelift to enhance the results.

What to expect after a facelift

While it will reduce the signs of aging and give you a more youthful appearance, it will not change your basic appearance or stop the aging process. A successful facelift will achieve balance and proportion restoring a naturally youthful look that enhances confidence and well-being.
