How Long Will Dermal Fillers Last?

How Long Will Dermal Fillers Last?

Let’s face it: Sometimes store-bought anti-wrinkle creams just aren’t enough to fade the appearance of facial lines.  Even high-end creams and serums only bring minor relief – and you’re seeking much more noticeable results.  So what’s a person to do when they want to look younger, but not play guessing games with anti-aging products?

The answer is simple: dermal fillers!

Dermal fillers are anti-aging injections that contain hyaluronic acid as an active ingredient.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound that encourages collagen and elastin production for increased cellular turnover.  Dermal fillers use a hyaluronic acid gel to trigger this long-term turnover while also providing instant volumization to the injection site.  The gels are available in various viscosities, according to what particular area it’s designed to treat.

Since there are various differences between different dermal filler brands, it’s important for clients to understand that this could impact how long results last for.  In general, dermal filler injections can last anywhere from six months to two years.  There’s even a specific brand of dermal filler that’s designed to last up to five years, making it the longest lasting filler on the market.

So what’s a good rule of thumb for determining how long your dermal filler results will last for?  Simple – the thicker the gel, the longer it will last.  That means gel placed in the lips and around the mouth (which are thinner to mimic natural movement) will last anywhere from six months to one year.  Hyaluronic acid gel that’s thicker – commonly used around the cheeks – will last for much longer.
