How to Choose Breast Implants

How to Choose Breast Implants

Breast augmentations come with a lot of choices. One of the most important decisions you can make is the type of implant you’d like to have. With the wide range of available options these days, the choice may be harder than it seems. Each has pro’s and con’s that will take careful consideration before your breast enhancement.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are filled to desired fullness at the time of your surgery with a sterile saltwater solution. The procedure involves a slightly smaller incision, and potentially more options for incision location, such as the armpit. To create a more natural result, Dr. Correa often places these implants below the breast muscle, or above the muscle if you prefer a more ‘augmented’ look.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are a popular choice among many women due to the natural look and feel. They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to meet your aesthetic goals. Most women choose silicone due to their superior feel and naturalness.

‘Gummy Bear’ Implants

Gummy bear implants are what many people call ‘Form-stable’ implants. These implants have a thicker and stronger silicone gel so if there is a rupture it maintains a shape. Because of the thickness of the gel they tend to feel slightly firmer. A slightly larger incision is needed for placement and implants can be too firm for some.

Anatomic Implants

Anatomic implants are also often called ‘Teardrop Implants’ as they attempt to mimic the appearance of a tear-drop shaped natural breast. Because of this, they are textured to prevent rotation or movement allowing them to retain the desired appearance long-term. All anatomic styles are textured and have a velcro-like surface that attaches to scar tissue over time. You’ll have a multitude of shapes and sizes to choose from if you decide on anatomic implants.

Round Implants

Round implants are the most commonly used implant for breast augmentation and have been around the longest. There are many advantages to using a round implant but they are not for everyone. Dr. Correa will discuss which implants you are a good candidate for in order to best achieve your goals.
