A tummy tuck can be a life-altering procedure for the right candidate. The removal of excess fat and skin on the lower stomach can help men and women regain their self-confidence with a streamlined physique. While there are non-surgical alternatives, a tummy tuck is the gold standard for patients seeking dramatic, long-term results.
With a little pre-planning, you’ll be able to facilitate a speedy recovery and get back to your normal routine as quickly as possible. Dr. Correa uses the most advanced surgical techniques to ensure an optimal outcome for every patient. Depending on your individual goals, you may also qualify for a ‘mini tuck’ which will get you back on your feet even sooner.
Several Days Post-Op
This is the time for extended rest and relaxation. You’ll be on bed rest with the exception of moving around the house every few hours to encourage blood flow. Having a friend or family member help out during this time is a good idea.
Expect pain to be at its worst the first several days post-op. Dr. Correa will prescribe a pain management plan to keep you as comfortable as possible. Before your surgery, stage a recovery area with medications, water, light snacks, and entertainment within easy access.
Recovery: Week One
After about 1-week, you’ll probably feel comfortable walking upright. You can move around a little more, but heavy lifting and extended reaching are a no-no if you want to avoid potential complications. Some patients also opt to continue sponge baths throughout the first week.
Recovery: Week Two
You’ll start to feel more like yourself throughout the first 2-weeks of recovery. It’s important to remember that you’ll tire more easily than normal. Listen to your body, and don’t push yourself too hard. Doing too much too soon can prolong the healing process.
Strenuous activities should continue to be avoided. However, most tummy tuck patients start to incorporate their daily activities into their routine. You are free to head back to work around week two.
Full Recovery After A Tummy Tuck
Your incisions should be fully healed, and you should have most of your strength back by week six. You’ll be able to perform most activities as you feel comfortable doing them. Swelling will have completely subsided around week 6 leaving you with a firm, flat stomach.
